Ae Watan Mere Watan Movie Review: Sara Ali Khan lacks depth in slow moving tale

Movie Reviews 21 Mar 2024

Rating : **

Sara Ali Khan starrer Ae Watan Mere Watan is out now on Amazon Prime Videos. The biographical drama is based totally at the lifestyles of Usha Mehta, who became a freedom fighter and labored actively at some point of the 1942's Quit India Movement. Sara who turned into remaining visible in a alternatively glamorous position in Murder Mubarakh, plays a sober Usha in Kannan Iyer's modern-day release. She dons khadi sarees and yells 'karo ya maro' at every given factor but fails to electrify together with her overall performance in Ae Watan Mere Watan too.

Story

Ae Watan Mere Watan begins with junior Usha telling her father that she desires to fly. Played by using Sachin Khedekar, Usha's father tells her to discover wings to fly excessive inside the sky. The film then teleports to 1940s while Sara Ali Khan may be seen having difference of opinion with her father over Britain's involvement in India. However, soon does Usha realize that her wings are her combating spirit and love for the country. Usha then starts her radio station titled Congress Radio to unite humans and ignite the Quit India Movement. She is joined via two different college friends and patriotic citizens, Fahad (played by way of Sparsh Srivastava) and Kaushik (performed via Abhay Verma).

While the 3 seem to be finding their paths to unite humans with the help in their radio, they meet Ram Manohar Lohia (played by way of Emraan Hashmi). Despite a slow first half, the film progresses faster in the 2nd half while John Lyre, the Mumbai Crime Branch head is assigned to close the radio and capture the culprits. With a chunk of combating, impossible romantic moments, friendship calls and freedom warfare, the movie leads to its quit.

Direction

Kannan Iyer, who became final applauded for Ek Thi Daayan cannot count on the same with Ae Watan Mere Watan. The writing of this movie lacks depth which is seen inside the performances. Sparsh and Emraan strive hard to hide the failings with their exceptional performances however Ae Watan Mere Watan might have been loads better. It is constantly difficult to offer real-life characters on screen however movies like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and Sardar Udham have set the bar so high that Ae Watan Mere Watan appears susceptible in the writing and presentation. Kannan Iyer's second half tries to create a mystery vibe however the biographical drama stays a drama best.

Acting

Sara Ali Khan's portrayal of Usha Mehta seems 1/2-baked in the course of. Even too much hand moves make her look poor on screen. Moreover, her depthless overall performance receives highlighted on every occasion she shares the frame with Sparsh and Emraan. Laapataa Ladies actor Sparsh Srivastava is awesome as Fahad. He makes you feel for the freedom warfare and clinches your heart with on-factor communicate transport. You will without a doubt see extra of this new-age actor. Emraan Hashmi's versatility quotient is increasing with each performance. An actor who was kind casted for goodbye has damaged obstacles with films like Tiger 3 and Ae Watan Mere Watan. Hashmi's portrayal of the actual-existence man or woman of Ram Manohar Lohia flows easily in each body and the actor makes his performance remember. You might experience for Abhay Verma's Kaushikk and Sachin Khedekar as Sara's on-display screen father is also ideal casting. His final letter reading scene turned into a standout for me.

Music

Apart from Sara's pale overall performance, another huge lower back draw of Ae Watan Mere Watan is its music. Any movie that is based on nationality or patriotism has a wide scope for emotional lyrics and goosebump-worthy songs. Unfortunately, track composers Utkarsh and Umesh Dhotekar didn't grasp the possibility. Hence, even the film fails to create a bond with its target market as no track or background rating from Ae Watan Mere Watan will provoke them. A massive sadness right here!

Verdict

I would handiest like to offer 2 stars to Ae Watan Mere Watan as the movie offers not anything new to its target market. The movie is based on one among many unsung heroes of our freedom struggle, Usha Mehta. But having one of these huge duty, the makers have offered a slow and non-thrilling movie. However, a good takeaway from Ae Watan Mere Watan is certainly Emraan Hashmi and Sparsh Srivastav. The film is now available on Prime Videos.
